A legume is a plant in the family Fabaceae, or the fruit or seed of such a plant. Legumes are grown agriculturally, primarily for human consumption, for livestock forage and silage.
Pulses are edible seeds of plants in the legume family. Pulses grow in pods and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours.
Well known pulses include dry beans, dry broad beans, dry peas, chickpeas, cow peas, pigeon peas, lentils, Bambara beans, vetches and lupins.
